During
the past few years we have built dozens of pairs of speakers
for our friends in the industry. It has certainly been our pleasure,
and quite an honor
to do this. Not surprisingly, most of these custom jobs called for
the owner’s favorite brand of wire, caps, terminals and so on.
Naturally, we took the opportunity to listen to and compare the various combinations. Soon a pattern emerged as we distilled out the ‘best of the best’, and we began offering it as our ‘recommended’ package to our friends who wanted something special.
We didn’t really intend for this idea to turn into an official product - but dealers began selling them to their customers anyway. So, we sort of ‘backed in” to the whole idea.
Inside the company we had been calling these speakers “Hot Rods”- and the name stuck. “Hot Rod” means, simply, high performance. |

Separate woofer and tweeter input terminals
allow for
biwiring.
Auric capacitors and Caddock resistors in tweeter circuit for better detail and a more natural presentation.
Perfect Lay 14 gauge air core inductor in woofer circuit.
Lower resistance and lower Q mean more articulate bass via better amplifier
damping.
Keldamp damping material applied to woofer and tweeter to suppress
basket and motor ringing.
Crossover components bedded to the mounting board on a layer of Keldamp, entire board bedded to main cabinet on a layer of Keldamp to reduce
microphonics.
Increased cabinet damping.
All connections made with silver solder.
The
HOTROD Kestrel delivers a coherent and natural musicality that is quite
out of proportion to its modest price !
All genuine HOTROD Kestrels sport this cool, cool, logo on the rear... |
