While last Tuesday’s concert at
a downtown nightclub by jazz legend Patricia Barber and her talented trio drew rave reviews from critics and fans alike, it appears to have had the extreme effect of ending the life of local speaker designer, Meadowlark Audio’s, Patrick McGinty.
According to Meadowlark Audio’s staff, all of whom attended the show, McGinty’s love for Patricia’s Barber’s music seems to have bordered upon obsession. As Production Manager Joyce Shaw put it, ”At Meadowlark Audio we always name each of our speakers after birds, but Pat’s recent decision to name our new subwoofer the
“Bye Bye Blackbird” after a Barber cover seemed a bit over the top, even for him! I’m not really surprised that Pat lost his composure here tonight but this is absolutely ridiculous! Now what the hell am I going to do for a job?”
Onlookers reported that McGinty was observed simpering during Ms. Barber’s gripping interpretation of
“Summer Samba”, loosening his collar and gasping that it was
“too rich for my blood”. Then, during a devastating encore performance of
“You are My Sunshine”, McGinty stammered that his “heart may grow dizzy and
fall....”.
Lucinda, wife of 20 years, followed the stricken engineer onto the patio to get some air where she recounted “He just melted,
liquefied....and with this dopey smile on his face! Can you believe it? He never did anything like that for me! Now what the hell am I going to do
for Company?”
Ms. Barber was unaware of the incident which the District Attorney has called an "involuntary suicide".
The deceased's final words remain something of a mystery, ”If this isn’t death, it’ll have to do....’til the real thing comes along....”
THE REMAINING MEADOWLARK AUDIO STAFF ENTHUSIASTICALLY RECOMMENDS THAT YOU OWN ALL FOUR OF THESE PATRICIA BARBER
RECORDINGS WHICH ARE AVAILABLE ON BOTH CD AND
LP.
